Former Dallas Mustang Colin Poche now pitching for the Rays at Globe Life Park. I don’t often pull against the Rangers, but tonight it is different.

Great story in the Tampa Bay Times about Dallas Mustangs alum Colin Poche and why he is in the Major Leagues and playing a role in the success of the the Tampa Bay Rays. The word “curiosity” jumped out at me. Colin took accountability for his success.

The greatest advantage you have and also the greatest disadvantage is the space between your ears. It also the greatest freedom you have. You decide what and how you think, not your parents, not your teachers, coaches and friends. YOU. Your brain is designed to protect you from

Injury and failure among other things. You must override that impulse to become who you want to be. Accept the challenge. YOU.

Congratulations to John Callis!!! This guy did not make it as a walk-on last year at Pepperdine. He spent the summer getting himself ready and is now a member of the Pepperdine Wave baseball team. Hard work and determination pay off.

To be a real leader, you have to lead everyone including your best friends. Calling others out & holding them accountable to & for the team isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. It leads to team achievement. Leaders should have no problem bringing others on the journey to betterment!

The team you’re on is less important than the attitude, effort & energy you bring. Freshman, Sophomore, JV, Varsity, starter, 2nd string, role player, etc. doesn’t define who you are. How you respond to your role, while working for the role you want & helping your team win, DOES!

Don’t ever waste time on those who don’t understand your competitive spirit. It’s part of who you are. Don’t shut down your inner drive to make others feel better about themselves. That only hurts you. Those who understand it, don’t need an apology. Those who don’t, never will!
