A thread about using color as a design tool in science presentations. Color is a great tool to separate different categories of information, to highlight information, or to establish an emotional tone. 🧵1/20

I wrote a guide to common errors and mistakes I see beginning R students making in my data viz class. Stuff like "function not found" or "package was compiled with R version..." or "don't put numbers in quotes". Your students may find it handy too. nickch-k.github.io/DataCommSlides…

Yes! Oxford Nanopore PromethION version 22.05.7 has this included: -Metadata now included in Bam files (ie. model name and version) But it's better than that. It's in the fastq too basecall_model_version_id=[model] in each read. This is excellent progress for reproducibility!

Ever heard of logistic regression? Or Poisson regression? Both are generalized linear models (GLMs). They're versatile statistical models. And by now, they've probably been reframed as super hot #MachineLearning. You can brush up on their math with this 🧵. #rstats #Statistics

Many computer vision classes teach theory and algorithms šŸ™‚ BUT they don't cover how to build an ML application end-to-end ā˜¹ļø I've put together a practical tutorial on how to build an image classifier, from datasets to deployment! Check it out: colab.research.google.com/drive/1b50WxRu…

How do Plasmodium vivax parasites hide from the immune system? 🦠 That's what Paolo Bareng wants to find out, using data in the MalariaGEN Pv datasets. We caught up with him at ASTMH #TropMed22: malariagen.net/blog/how-do-pl…

When you post to bioRxiv you can now get professional help in polishing the manuscript. In your author account, select "Submit to author service", and choose Academic Language Experts (aclang.com). Another benefit we're happy to offer preprint authors.

The human gut #archaeome remains largely under-explored. Myo Thet Naung consistently identified three main archaeal phyla dominated by Methanobacteriota, and keen to understand the role of archaea in gut health and disease #MicroSeq2023
