Kate Winslet is a marvel as Vogue war correspondent and photojournalist Lee Miller in Ellen Kuras' latest film, Lee. Fun to see in a theater in Copenhagen too!

I love this quote, but it's also not helpful for trying to narrow down a PhD thesis! “As we are always dealing with multiplicities, trying to pin down madness as one thing is, I think, to miss the point: It is a million things.” - Richard A. Ingram

Giving a guest lecture today on reimagining madness, hearing voices, and invisible worlds. Giving a linear academic presentation on "madness" is an odd one, but I'm planning on shaking it up a bit with a film screening and some experimental activities.

Great day in Dublin at the #KyrieFarm conference - mental health care focused on human connection, working with the land, and therapy centered on the person not their diagnosis.

Great morning visiting #KyrieFarm in Dublin. Beautiful vision of mental health care rooted in taking care of the land and each other. And those tomatoes tasted gorgeous.

Well... of course patients are escaping the psych ward if the psych ward is full of abuse and sexual assault. There's something particularly traumatising about being harmed in a place claiming to provide care. independent.co.uk/news/health/me…

This book. In Ascension by Martin MacInnis. Spans the intimacy of oceans and galaxies and the vastness of family and love; life in its smallest and grandest formations. Stunning

Feelings don't care about your facts. This is going to be a deep dive into the role of conspiracy culture in building the Trump coalition. When needed structural change isn't on offer, conspiracies are doppelgangers/substitutes of the real thing.

Lived experience of being helped by psych meds doesn't negate lived experience of being harmed by psych meds, and vice versa. There is this amazing thing called human variation and diversity of "lived experience" - rather than fight one another, we can call for more choice.

Our film, Unexpected Guests, just won a wee award of commendation from Canada Shorts Film Festival. We can't wait to share this film about voice-hearing once it's finished the film festival circuit!

New short story out in the formidable Whisk(e)y Tit Journal! After his estranged father dies, Jackson tries to escape his grief in this dystopian future where mental stability is an obligation, not a choice. whiskeytit.com/article/a-safe…

Annoyed I have to keep scrolling past the AI Overview in google. It's full of incorrect and useless information. We should have the option to opt-in or opt-out of generative AI and to know when and where it is being used. Particularly given its ethical and enviornmental failures.

Someone asked me why I like dystopian sci fi stories, given how depressing they can be. I find them hopeful. They imagine societies similar to ours but more dire, more hopeless, with less resources. Still, people resist corruption, power, greed, lies; they fight for each other.

When I started talking about Oligarchy, many people didn't understand what I meant. Well, that's changed. When the 3 wealthiest men in America sit behind Trump at his inauguration, everyone understands that the billionaire class now controls our government. We must fight

Can't wait to read the Silo Series by Hugh Howey after watching the TV adaptation. Great concept, surprising twists, and some delightfully fun and complex characters.

Looking forward to reading my wee poem, Ktunaxa Hoodoos, at The Alcove: Poetry in Edinburgh this Friday night! fb.me/e/5gSITrgLz. The poem will be published by Pinhole Poetry later this Spring. If you're in Edinburgh, stop by for a pint and a good time.

The river cuts  its meat from the sky.  “Step back!” we say, in hard-packed snow  below the pines, where bats roost,  slipping under synthetic bark. New published poem in Pinhole Poetry, inspired by the striking Hoodoos in British Columbia, Canada. pinholepoetry.ca/8843-2/

We had a great time screening Unexpected Guests in Edinburgh--many intriguing chats with the audience about voice-hearing. The film will be playing this week at the 15th Pune Short Film Festival.
