Make your voice heard on #BillC5. The federal government’s use of an omnibus bill to combine rights-impacting legislation with fiscal measures has limited First Nations’ ability to participate in decisions that affect our rights and interests. ➡️ Contact your MP and Senators:

I don’t know what to say to this either than we have a premier who does not understand treaties, how they are the Canadian laws of the land, and, that Ontario actually signed Treaty 9 where the Ring of Fire is located. Making racist comments like this are beneath his office.

Yesterday I, along with NDP colleagues Lori Idlout and Jenny Kwan, stood with Ontario Chiefs giving the Liberal government a clear message on Bill C-5: we will not stand for the violation of Indigenous peoples’ constitutional rights. Watch the full press conference here:

Doug Ford remarks are offensive, rooted in racism & colonial violence. We are coming from generations of unresolved treaty rights, stolen lands & broken promises. Our Nations have taken care of ourselves long before your govt existed. You are the one begging for our resources.

A letter my office just sent Doug Ford in response to his appalling statement that First Nations “cannot keep coming hat in hand to the government for more money.” #honourthecrown

Being ‘passionate’ doesn’t give you an excuse to express your racism. If and when Doug Ford is ready to personally apologize to the people of Nishnawbe Aski Nation, we will consider it. If the Premier is sincere with his apology, he needs to show it, not just say it.

A just and prosperous Ontario must be built on respect - for Indigenous sovereignty, for workers’ rights, and for the land and waters that sustain us all. Miigwetch Ontario Federation of Labour for standing in solidarity with us. #StopBill5 ofl.ca/joint-statemen…
