A new NESSC study shows that groundwater with high concentrations of nitrogen will keep rivers polluted for decades. This is a legacy of past agricultural practices in the twentieth century, when large amounts of fertilisers were used. Read more here: buff.ly/4aU5nIA

The breakdown of nitrogen in rivers systems has rapidly accelerated in the 20th century, a new NESSC study by Junjie Wang and colleagues at Geosciences UU shows. These natural processes have accelerated up to three to six times. Read more about the study here: buff.ly/3LWrOmv
