On #PretendtobeaTimeTraveller day, these images show High Street, Northop 100 years apart – in 1924 and 2024. Any #timetravellers would have no difficulty in recognising this street, especially the Boot Inn which is still a thriving pub. PH/45/109, NEWA, Hawarden.

On #PretendtobeaTimeTraveller day, these photos show Caergwrle’s High Street in 1910, and today. The Glynne Arms public house on the right is now a nursing home. #Timetravellers would still be able find their way to Caergwrle Castle, in the distance. Ref: PH/12/17, NEWA Hawarden.

Get your glad rags on and party like it’s the Roaring Thirties! These Rhyl Revellers were enjoying a black-tie event at the Town Hall in 1932. A young vicar (front row, seated, second to right) looks a little out of his comfort zone! #HBAHParties History Begins at Home Ref: PH/56/812

At a meeting of the Hawarden Board of Guardians in 1898, it was decided that a Christmas dinner be held for the workhouse inmates. A brewery company at Caergwrle offered to give a nine-gallon cask of ale ā€˜for the old people’s enjoyment’. From the Chester Courant, 14 Dec 1898.

Here we can see two gentlemen smiling outside a Radio and Cycle shop (Ruthin, 1935). This photo inspired us to take part in #Radioday, are there any photographs in our collections that have inspired you? (PPD/90/299)

NEWA is an Accredited Archive Service, something we’re very proud of. But what is it? What does it mean and what did we have to do to get this award? Find out in our latest blog post. denbighshirearchives.wordpress.com/2025/02/27/arc…

On #Shakespearesbirthday did you know that Flint Castle was the setting for an Act in his famous play, Richard II? In Act 3, Scene 3, Bolingbroke instructs the Duke of Northumberland: "Go to the rude ribs of that antient castle" (PR/701).
