Spending the hot afternoon (28 °C) with science meeting and ice cream🤓🍦. Our PhD student Yuchen Liao Yuchen Liao presented her very interesting work about the umbrella effect of #GiantPanda on endemic plants under protected area expansion and land-use change. #wsl

Great conceptual and coding material by Victor Boussange and Mauro!

How can we consider "time" in SDMs? This was a fun paper to conceptualize and write, with @ZurellLab and Philipp Brun from our WSL Dynamic Macroecology lab!

Guter Anfang Schweizer Bauernverband!

I'm thrilled to announce that the project team of my SNSF Advanced Grant Project on “BIOME EVOLUTION & CLIMATE CHANGE” is complete and the members started their research WSL Dynamic Macroecology, WSL Umweltforschung @wslresearch.bsky.social!🚀 More information about the project here: shorturl.at/TtakH

#Nature is designed to cope with fluctuations. Yet, fluctuations become more extreme with shifting mean climates. We now start to see effects of such increasing extremes on #ecosystems & #biodiversity. Niklaus E Zimmermann answers a question our lab is frequently asked in this context.

Higher resolution #climate data boosts 🌨️#snow cover❄️accuracy in models by up to 52%! This shows the importance of fine-scale climate in #climatechange impact studies, especially in 🏔️mountainous regions like Switzerland. Using #CHELSA #climatedata we assess how 21st-century #climatechange impacts #hydrology in high-mountain catchments across #CentralAsia, providing critical insights for managing water resources in a region facing significant #climate_risks. hydrosolutions GmbH link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Happy to share my impressions from this year’s summer school of the Extremes_WSL program and @SwissForestLab on «Forests & Extremes – crisis or transition?» in Davos. I was teaching how difficult it is to forecast the impact of #ClimateChangerelated extremes on #biodiversity.

Guter Hintergrundartikel von @EstherWidmann zur Entstehung der Roten Listen und dem Zustand der #Biodiversität in NZZ Wissenschaft.

Congratulations Dr. Yaquan Chang|常雅荃!🎓 She has successfully defended her PhD thesis on "Geologic controls on plant biodiversity of Hengduan Mountains".🌱🏔️ We wish her all the best for her personal and professional future.🚀❤️
