Still relying on PTBD for biliary decompression ⁉️ #DDW2025 Digestive Disease Week 🇺🇸 data from ~200,000 inpatients over 15 yrs PTBD ⬇️ (–0.35%/yr) while EUS ⬆️ (+0.45%/yr)👇 EUS had comparable safety to ERCP unlike PTBD (⏫ AEs: OR 1.72, p=0.002) Kudos to #AyaAkhras ✍️ et al 👏

Certainly fits with what we are trying to do in the NE. Failed ERCP should prompt tertiary referral NOT PRBD…

Clinical experience is obviously very important but this study shows how supplementing this with videos really enhances learning. Seems to have a larger effect in more novice endoscopists. Might be something to use for our fellows…
