Toxoplasmosis, a parasitic disease spread by #cats, not only causes abortions in women but can reduce male fertility. These impacts have been seen in humans, rams, mice & rats. Implications of cats (feral & "farm") on sheep might be higher than thought. theconversation.com/a-common-paras…

Foxes are tough & determined. Chicken coups & pet runs/hutches need to be strong. Remember #foxes dig. 🦊numbers are highest in urban areas. ⬇️access to food to ⬇🦊 populations & impacts. Secure bins/compost, bring in pet/bird food, pick up fruit, provide shelter for wildlife.

Something Landcare means to us too! Managing weeds has always been on Landcare's agenda. Managing pests is more & more common, which is fantastic for our env & ag. Over 367 of our native animals are highly susceptible to #feralcats & diseases impact sheep, goat & poultry farmers

Foxes dig up nests, eat eggs & baby turtles & even adults if they can. This means that many of our turtle species don't have enough young to replenish populations. Effective #fox mgmt is key! Find out how:🐢 feralcatandfox.com.au pestsmart.org.au 1millionturtles.com/fox-management…

Many of our native animals are 👎impacted by #totalpredationpressure, combined hunting by introduced & native predators. Species like bandicoots are more able to avoid native predators, because they evolved together. But less so with introduced ones, like cats, #foxes & dingoes.

Canid Pest Ejectors are a useful device for fox mgmt. The trigger allows for a more targeted delivery of a lethal dose of 1080 or PAPP. They are secured to the ground & the toxin is in a capsule so it doesn't break down like baits. Click on Agvocate link below to see it in action

Lisette Mill found feathers & a scent lure distracts off-target species from interacting with Canid Pest Ejectors. While #feralcats activating a CPE might be ok, stopping roos, wallabies, ravens activating them (without harm) means they are there for foxes youtu.be/P86jjtxz9ZA?si…

Out feral cat trapping with Lilydale Landcare. First thing caught… a devil 😍 Competition between introduced predators like #feralcats and native predators such devils and quolls can be an issue for native predators.

Just because you don't see #foxes, doesn't mean they aren't there. 1 paddock of ewes & lambs 6 foxes shot in 1 walk with thermal gear. Thermal equipment is a game changer & helps remove foxes that avoid eating baits in broad scale mgmt programs or in areas that can't be baited.

Carnaby's, Baudin's & Forest Red-tailed Black-Cockatoos are endangered. A study by Mawson et al. found #feralcats killed Carnaby adults, chicks & eggs in nest hollows/boxes. In 2024, during drought & low prey almost 25% of breeding attempts were impacted publish.csiro.au/pc/pdf/PC25019

These feisty cuties are 1 of our native carnivores. Weighing in at 60g they should be hunting for insects & birds throughout Sth Oz woodland. Loss of hollows, habitat & predation by #foxes (ground) & #feralcats (trees & ground) mean few are left. #thisiswhywemanagecatsfoxes

Feral cat poo 101. They don't bury it. It's a territory marker. Usually grey & polished. Finger lengths with fur, wool, feathers, teeth of prey & crushed bone sometimes seen. Carrier of toxoplasmosis & tapeworms. If able, bury it deep & set cat control near.

Great news! This will help Northern & Yorke Landscape Board’s Marna Banggara project where they are having great success working with SA Department for Environment & Water, Landcare Association of SA, farmers, & community to manage #feralcats & #foxes impacts on threatened species such as the #malleefowl. 🦆🦜🦎🐸🦘
