B1: Jon Morgante reaches on a two-out infield single, steals his 14th base of the season, but gets stranded at second. Scoreless to the second.

Drew Yagodzinskie strikes out the first five batters he faces before Dunmore 6-hitter Jamie McMynne snaps the MCA ace’s 50-batter hitless streak with a bloop single to RF. 5-6-7 due up for the Red Tornadoes in the bottom of the second.

B2: Mount Carmel strikes first, as freshman Walker McGinley rips a two-out double into the RF corner to bring around Gabe Yuskoski from second. 1-0 Red Tornadoes, to the third.

Drew Yagodzinskie works a 1-2-3 top of the third, is currently at 47 pitches with six strikeouts. Only had five three-ball counts in previous two games, already has four today. Top of MCA’s lineup coming to bat.

B3: Brayden Brinkash leads off by reaching on an E6, Jon Morgante walks two batters later, but nothing more. MCA still leads, 1-0, to the fourth.

T4: Drew Yagodzinskie strikes out the side for a second time. Through four innings of work, he has struck out nine and allowed just one hit. At 63 pitches.

B4, 2 outs: Mount Carmel has extended its lead to 4-0 so far. Brody Brinkash RBI single that might’ve been an inning-ending double play if not for a whacky bounce off 2B. Jon Morgante reaches on an E5 that scores to more and forces Dunmore SP Max Forgione out of the game.

Drew Yagodzinskie gives Dunmore reliever Mason Stets’ third pitch a ride to the LCF gap, but Bucks LF Nate Grochowski makes a great sliding catch to end the threat. 5-6-7 due up for Dunmore. MCA leads, 4-0.

Since allowing a two-out single in the second inning (Dunmore’s lone baserunner), Drew Yagodzinskie has retired 10 straight. Through five, he has 11 strikeouts and stands at 71 pitches. Limit is 75 for him to still be eligible for a potential quarterfinal Thursday.

B5: Lukas Carpenter leads off with a single but gets left at second. Yagodzinskie back out to at least start the sixth, with MCA still leading, 4-0.

MCA coach Dave Langton and his staff opt to let Drew Yagodzinskie roll, he works his fourth straight 1-2-3 inning, but is now ineligible for a potential quarterfinal Thursday. 9-1-2 due up for MCA, which still leads 4-0, to the bottom of the sixth.

B6: Mount Carmel adds an insurance run, as Brody Brinkash scores on a wild pitch after leading off with a walk. Drew Yagodzinskie still on the mound, three outs from a third straight complete-game shutout. 2-3-4 due up as Dunmore’s last chance. MCA leads, 5-0.

PIAA Class 3A first round FINAL: Mount Carmel 5, Dunmore 0. Drew Yagodzinskie pitches a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts, and extends his scoreless streak to 30 1/3 innings. MCA vs. D3-2 Bermudian Springs in Thursday’s quarterfinal.

The win is the second state win in Mount Carmel’s program history, back-to-back years. It’s also Drew Yagodzinskie’s 23rd career pitching win, tying Dave Wesoloski’s program record.

Seven hits from seven different hitters for Mount Carmel against a Dunmore pitching staff that entered with a 1.64 ERA. The two RBI came from 8- and 9-hitters Walker McGinley and Brody Brinkash.

🧵Just to recap, Drew Yagodzinskie’s last three starts: Perfect game, 8 strikeouts No-hitter, 15 strikeouts, 0 walks 1-hit shutout, 14 strikeouts, 1 walk His last earned run was more than a month ago at this point. 30 1/3 straight innings pitched without allowing a single run.

Yagodzinskie’s season ERA is now down to 1.06. He’s been super efficient, too. His second and seventh innings today (17 and 19 pitches) were the only two this postseason that required more than 16 pitches.

He’s averaging less than 13 pitches per inning over his last three starts, all while striking out 54.4% of the total batters he’s faced over that span. I’ve seen a ton of baseball, as have other local reporters covering this run. None of us have ever seen a run this dominant.
