During the national commemoration of Remembrance Day we remember all - civilians and soldiers – who have been killed or murdered in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or anywhere else in the world in war situations or during peacekeeping operations since the outbreak of World War II.

On 5 May, the Netherlands celebrates its liberation in 1945. We commemorate the end of the Second World War, the restoration of the constitutional state and the fact that it enables us to live in freedom. We also reflect on the importance of freedom, democracy, and human rights.

The critical situation in the Middle East and ongoing developments underline the importance of working towards a two-state solution. Therefore Morocco and the Netherlands co-hosted a meeting in #Rabat today on this crucial topic. I thank Morocco for this joint initiative. 1/3

This meeting - the first time an Arab and European partner were co-chair - is organised within the framework of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and brought together governments and organisations from across the globe. 2/3

They reflected on lessons learned from past peace initiatives and discussed Palestinian institution building and supporting the Palestinian economy. The Netherlands - as outlined in our government agreement - is committed to a two-state solution for a durable, lasting peace. 3/3
