This #FossilFriday we highlight one of the less showy residents of our oversize racks, a cluster of inoceramus. Although these shells look like something you might see on the beach today, they are actually about 90 million years old. Find out more here: arctos.database.museum/guid/NMMNH:Pal…

for #FossilFriday something from the Paleozoic collections of New Mexico NMMNHS Paleontology. Diplichnites trackway attributed to giant arthropod Arthropleura. Scale bar is 10 cm. How big of a can of bug spray would one need coming across one of these, I wonder.

New research confirms that fossil human footprints in White Sands National Park are likely the oldest direct evidence of human presence in the Americas. The finding upends many archaeologists' prior knowledge of this. kob.com/news/us-and-wo… kob.com/news/us-and-wo…

for #FossilFriday, here’s a Cobelodus from the Pennsylvanian Atrasada Fm near ABQ (307-315 Ma). This predatory cartilaginous fish will be featured in our new Ancient Life hall NMMNHS Paleontology to open late 2024. One of many cool fossils from our collections destined for display.

#FossilFriday sneak peek in one of the rooms holding specimens destined for display in our new hall, Ancient Life. Do the names Sphenacodon, Eryops, Gordodon, Eoscansor, Toomeyospongia mean anything to you? If not, they will when Ancient Life opens in late 2024!

#FossilFriday NM Dept of Cultural Affairs thinks dinosaurs are interesting so they asked me for an interview. If you have 45 minutes to spare, here’s the link on how Alaska and New Mexico dinosaurs are connected. podcast.nmculture.org/2023/12/12/big…

#FossilFriday Just spent several days in the Late Cretaceous Hall Lake Fm of New Mexico. Wow, lots of cool fossils and geology to be studied. There’s a lot of work to do out there. Stay tuned.

#FossilFriday Sauropod vertebrae are often huge and extremely delicate. Our interns have given this one the best treatment with a custom cradle! This vert is from a Morrison Formation Camarasaurus and you can find out more about the specimen here: arctos.database.museum/guid/NMMNH:Pal… IMLS
