Salt the life-sized, inflatable, Humpback whale recently visited the Brookline Science Fair! Sanctuary staff and volunteers joined a youth robotics team to talk about oceans, marine debris, and whales! Salt is modeled after a real whale that visits NOAA Stellwagen Bank NMS every summer!

Happy spring from NOAA Stellwagen Bank NMS! In the spring, these waters experience more upwelling, making the water richer in nutrients and leading to phytoplankton blooms. This then sets off a chain of interconnected food webs. Phytoplankton feed zooplankton, which then feed right whales!
