We're pleased to see that Trafnidiaeth Cymru Trenau Transport for Wales Rail has completed works at Abergele & Pensarn in N Wales to turn disused space into rooms for the community - we awarded a grant to support this work. This complements work by Wales & Borders // Cymru a'r Gororau to restore platform shelters , which we also supported.

We sponsor an Railway Heritage Awd for projects in receipt of one of our grants. Last year the Award was won by Market Rasen for a project delivered by Colt Construction, funded mainly by @NetworkRail Eastern Region and with an £18k grant from us. Today we unveiled the award plaque.

We were ably hosted by the Station Adoption Group who do a fantastic job keeping the station bright and tidy, and by the Station Building Heritage Day Centre who provided refreshments. The whole place is a great example of heritage and community rail at its best.

Today we unveiled the 2024 Volunteers Railway Heritage Awd plaques, sponsored by Network Rail,at Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways Penrhyn station. Brilliant restoration by a volunteer team, many present at the event.

We were pleased to give a grant to the Friends of Glazebrook Station - nr Warrington, built by the Cheshire Lines Committee - to restore their water fountain. It’s now completed and this before and after shows the difference that’s made to a small but decorative feature.

I’m visiting Springburn next week - does anyone know of any old (ie pre 1950) photos of the town-side facade of the station building? I’ve seen pictures of the platforms & rear of this building in the steam era but not the entrance facade. This is how it looked in 2024.
