Bit behind on promoting this, but glad to be part of some great work spearheaded by Kaushik Amancherla from @VUMCTransplant. Demonstrating high quality single cell data from biopsy-size samples should open a lot of doors both in transplant rejection and beyond. More to come!

An awesome opportunity for creative postdocs and instructors to make big strides (and take some ambitious chances) in an severely understudied CV disease area.

Oh I don't know, maybe because most systems involved with funding/publishing are designed to strip out the joy and creativity until your lab either a) closes, or b) does boring work to "get by." My best "disruptive" ideas have been harshly dismissed at trad funding sources.

Many thanks Stephen King for helping the recruiting efforts to my lab in famous Utica (genetics.mmri.edu)! What place did I get in order to spend the rest of my life here🤔 In seriousness, although it ain't perfect, there's no place I'd rather live and work. It's home.

Fun nugget while checking instructions/suggestions from NIH while writing a new R01. Speaks back to the nature.com/articles/d4158…. Junior people, don't dare to be "too innovative!!!"

Kind of disheartening that this has to be asked. Stop exploiting them as "just trainees" and give them salary and benefits befitting the skilled staff scientists that they are. Doesn't have to be on par with industry, but can't be as ridiculously imbalanced as now.

New Tucker lab gear courtesy of our departing star RA, Emily Marshall (2nd from left), graduate of MVCC Mohawk Valley and University at Albany. She always got our vibe, and did some awesome science here. We'll miss her greatly, but our loss is the PhD program at University of Rochester's gain.

Happy postdoc appreciation week. May we show appreciation for postdocs as the invaluable, highly trained scientists they are by providing the salaries, benefits, and respect they deserve. Despite still learning on the job (like everyone is), they are not "trainees."

After spending the last 15+ years studying the genome and its relationship with cardiovascular disease risk, I can appreciate how little we actually know. It is therefore distressing to watch this rush to irreversible genome editing as a first line therapeutic. Reeks of hubris.

We try to focus on the process (doing interesting science with good people) rather than the product (papers and funding). Good process -> I believe the products will come. My observations of product-focused labs with lousy process: miserable environments that are rife with fraud.

If the authors want to save money, they could start with their salaries first ($5M for Klibanski). Setting aside the "we are too charitable" part, the indirect cost section was disingenuous. This "crying poor" reminds me of defense sector inefficiency. statnews.com/2024/04/26/sol…

Absolutely thrilled to announce that the Tucker lab will be moving to SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY this September. Looking forward to awesome things ahead. Upstate Research Upstate Medical University SUNY - The State University of New York

Joys of kitting out a new lab. Sometimes you get to take your 20 year old pickup on a 600 mile single day roundtrip to pick up a cell culture hood, thermocyclers, and pipettors on the cheap. It's a glamorous life, I know.

This is certainly an interesting way to start an introduction to a review about fibroblast function in fibrotic and inflammatory diseases... Nice review honestly: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
