Let us observe Earth Day, 2021, as a special opportunity in a time of crisis. The earth is our home, a place of incomparable beauty, nurture, and healing. It deserves our recognition, our respect, and our protection. In saving the earth we save ourselves. -NSM #EarthDay

Consider the holy tree. It can be allowed to thirst. It can be cut down. Worst of all, it can be denied our faith in it, our belief. But if we speak to it, if we pray, it will thrive. From Earth Keeper #ArborDay

The deepest spirit of the earth resides in wilderness. The wild things in nature nurture the sense of wonder, and they are sacred to the human heart. -NSM

The earth is alive and possessed of sprit. It shares in our well being, and it also shares our suffering and our shame. When we inflict harm upon the earth, when we exploit it in the name of indifference and greed, we do so at our peril. We must respect, revere, and protect it.

There are islands of plastic waste on the seas, and even outer space is becoming thick with debris. Pollution is a signature of man. Silence has been diminished by machines. Artificial light has caused stars to recede into darkness. How will my children come to know the earth?

I observe a file of baby quail, how rapidly and precisely they keep in step, learning the wide world. They too keep the earth.                            NSM, Earth Keeper

Once in canyon country I saw a double rainbow over a landscape of volcanic rock. The contrast was starkly beautiful. The earth is a flag of many colors.                       NSM   Earth Keeper

I see the terrible force of Hurricane Ida, and I am reminded that the earth can bring devastation upon us. It can also bring wonder and delight. If we speak to the earth, it will listen. NSM, Earth Keeper

If you would be inspired by the spirit of the earth, read Genesis and the psalms among other classics of world literature, ancient and modern. It is the purpose of words to honor the earth.                         NSM, Earth Keeper

I see a mountain in the distance. Someone else saw the same mountain thousands of years ago. I must ponder this. The earth is a calendar of geologic time.                     NSM Earth Keeper

I rafted through the Grand Canyon, and through geologic time. My heart sang in a cradle of the earth.                              Earth Keeper

Snow falls and the earth sleeps. It is the time of renewal, and the earth awakens to a clear dawn.                                 Earth Keeper

Dawn touches splendor to the hills. Who can behold the sunrise and be indifferent to the earth?                                Earth Keeper

There is moonlight on a field of snow, and I am thankful for the gift of wonder.                                Earth Keeper

There is shame in desecrating the earth. Like hate, shame is acquired not inherited.                            Earth Keeper

Here the spring brings fresh green growth and birdsong. But we must witness also the scorched earth of the Ukraine.                                Earth Keeper
