Yes, there are more sick patients in our EDs. We know bc our trauma patients are an important driver: >20% increase (mostly lead by falls in our frail elderly). Remarkably, our trauma outcomes are improving, including a decrease in mortality. cbc.ca/news/canada/no…

Started asking our trainees who spend time on our TraumaNS Inpatient Consult Service to send me "5 Things" that they were surprised they learned. Shash Desai learned exactly what I was hoping he would. 👍👍👍 Nova Scotia Health Trauma Association of Canada Doctors Nova Scotia

Its time to get serious about FALLS. In Nova Scotia, FALLS are a just as common mechanism of major trauma as MVC's. And, it's mostly in our elderly population.

In Nova Scotia, major trauma patients do very well once they make it to our Level 1 hospital (QEII HSC). However, almost 70% of the victims who die from their injuries pass away BEFORE they reach our hospital. This is why injury prevention and trauma education are so important

Very excited to be a co-chair for our Trauma Association of Canada Annual Scientific Meeting next week in Halifax. The agenda has really come together nicely. And, there is still time to register. All are welcome! traumacanada.org

Off-road vehicles crashes often result in severe injuries, and are common in Nova Scotia (and everywhere else). It's unfortunate and unacceptable that they are usually due to alcohol/drug use/risky behaviour. Time to address this. CJEM CBC Nova Scotia

We are so proud to be recognized with the 2024 CCHL Excellence in Patient Experience Award. And, even more, this letter from one of our favourite trauma survivors was fitting as our acceptance speech. Shared with permission. CCHL - CCLS cchl-ccls.ca
