🐝🍀 Researchers from NSW Pastures have evaluated 22 #pasturelegumes for their #honey production potential. 🍯 The most- and least-promising species are being identified based on data analysis, with the shortlist due for release late 2024. More 👇 bit.ly/3XKL6Cr
Another Day another lime trial. Cowra lime expt. 4 pH profiles x 2 phos rates. Installing neutron probe tubes today to see if improving Colwell P and soil pH can increase water extraction at depth under pasture Meat & Livestock Australia Richard Hayes @DrJasonCondon
Taking grab samples at the Mangoplah liming site to compare herbage quality & mineral profile of different species, +/- lime. 2023 sampling showed sulla to have a unique & desirable min profile; low K, mod Na, high Mg. #Hippo NSW Pastures
Measuring the DM costs of untreated acidic soils on the #hippo pasture trial @ Morven. Not all responses were expected; strawberry clover doing surprisingly well in mixtures with phalaris. Grab samples tomorrow then time for the lambs to go in Holbrook Landcare NSW Pastures
Out pasture sampling around Coonabarabran. Does wearing the same colour help with productivity?🤷♀️ Soil tests showed a lack of sulphur, following up with tissue testing to see if plants are deficient too. Also looking at legume content of the pastures. #hippo project Richard Hayes
Harvesting Matthew Newell's perennial wheat variety trial at Orange Agricultural Institute today to look at grain yield and post-harvest survival. Each plot was done by hand to keep the seed clean for sowing additional sites next year. NSW Agriculture
More results from Matthew Newell of recent perennial wheat grazing experiments, demonstrating perennial crops grown in mixtures with legumes used for grazing and grain. publish.csiro.au/AN/AN24246
Soil sampling in 5cm increments down to 30cm at our lime demonstration sites at Parkes and Curra Creek. Not telling you anything if I say “it’s dry out their folks” Meat & Livestock Australia Richard Hayes
