Have you had an iced β€˜lollipop’ this weekend? 🌞 This weeks #18thCenturySlang word is 'Lollipops', defined as 'sweet lozenges purchased by children'. 🍭 Who knew 'lollipops' was such an old word? #SundaySlang inspiration taken from the Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue.

Cotton-grass bobbing in the breeze is a delightful sight on #Dartmoor in early summer. It's often called #BogCotton as it grows on the wettest and boggiest areas of the moor.

Despite its name, cotton-grass is a member of the sedge family, and not actually a grass. Being one of only a few flowering plants to thrive on saturated ground it benefits from a lack of competition. #NationalTrustDartmoor

An interesting one for #MosaicMonday This mosaic has often been called the 'Welcome Mat Mosaic'. It is at the top end of the Grand Reception Room at Chedworth. There is checkered patten of red and white mosaic pieces and it stretches the full width of the corridor. #Mosaics

Almost exactly on cue for #WorldBeeDay today, these little honey bees were filmed swarming in the orchard at Dyrham Park just last week by gardener Mark C. They moved on the following day. 🐝🐝 #Bees #NatureBeautyHistory

We do have a very pretty bridge at Prior Park. We also have many other treasures dotted around the landscape garden that once belonged to Bath entrepreneur Ralph Allen Tucked away near the lower lake is the ice house. In the 18th century only the richest people would've had one

Now that the weather's a little warmer, the citrus trees are out of the Greenhouse for the summer season. Walk past them for a delicious waft of zingy freshness. πŸ‹πŸŠπŸŒžπŸ˜Ž πŸ“· Helen R #OrangesAndLemons #Citrus

Here are a couple of #stonechats doing what stonechats do... These small #birds are often spotted on #Dartmoor. They like to perch on the top-most branches of gorse bushes, flick their wings, and sing out their distinctive call - which sounds like two stones being hit together.
