Between February and August of this year, one more state #Medicaid program (New Mexico's) removed prior authorization requirements on #hepatitisC treatment for most patients.

Seven years ago, a majority of state #Medicaid programs required patients to wait until #hepatitisC had already damaged their livers before insurance would cover treatment. Today, thanks to tireless advocacy, there are no longer any states imposing that harsh barrier to care.

Between February and August of this year, two more state #Medicaid programs (Arkansas and Iowa) removed substance use restrictions on #hepatitisC treatment for most patients.

Only three state #Medicaid programs still limit which kinds of clinicians can prescribe #hepatitisC treatment.

Despite a broader shift among state #Medicaid programs towards removal of barriers to initial #hepatitisC treatment, several states unfortunately maintain additional limitations on retreatment.

In the 42 states that contract with them, managed care organizations handle #Medicaid benefits for a majority of recipients — that's why their parity with official state policy is so important!
