Sunday 12th May will mark the UK's first National Fishing Remembrance Day to remember all those who have lost their lives whilst bringing home the catch. Events in the North West are being held at the North Euston Hotel, Fleetwood at 11am and at Maryport dockside at 3pm.

Cautious optimism regarding the Morecambe Bay cockle fishery this year. Flookburgh looked OK, and our officers are now surveying all other beds across the Bay. Members will then consider officers' findings and, at the end of May, vote on a potential July opening.

Officers attended the inaugural National Fishing Remembrance Day services in Fleetwood and Maryport yesterday. A fitting tribute to those who have lost their lives bringing home the catch.
