Gathering with our faith leaders this afternoon was a powerful reminder that through belief, we can find the strength to face any challenge. In the face of profound sorrow, it is our individual faiths that give us the fortitude to grieve, heal, and keep moving forward.

Tonight, we held a vigil to honor those we tragically lost in the Midtown shooting last night, including NYPD Officer Islam. Tonight is what our city represents. As New Yorkers, in difficult times, we show the country, and each other, our resiliency and our ability to stand

Last night, we came together as New Yorkers to pray for the four souls that were stolen from us in Midtown Manhattan earlier this week. We must continue to stand together every day to fight back against and prevent the senseless gun violence in our country.

My faith has lead me through tough times and inspired me to a career serving others. It was great discussing my journey and the role faith plays in shaping our city with so many of our spiritual leaders.

Today, we came together to honor the life of fallen NYPD Detective Didarul Islam. As a father, I am so sorry for his death because the pain of parents burying their child is so immense and intense. No one should ever lay their own son to rest.
