Earlier I paid an impromptu visit to NYS Yatta Field Station NYS Kenya, Machakos County to assess the internal initiatives being implemented by NYS to drive self-reliance. I was impressed by the Station's heavy investment in agricultural production & dedication to public service.

The NYS Yatta Station has committed over 300 acres of land to maize farming; expecting 5000 bags of maize at the end of the season. Other lands are dedicated to 300,000 avocado seedlings ready for market, and dairy, banana, fish, beef and beans farming; an efficient resource use.

The National Youth Service Yatta Field Station exemplified their dedication to public service; with their day starting at 5:30 AM and all officers at their work station at 7:30 AM; a commitment that all public servants should nurture in their places of work across the country.

As government continues to support young people to join the service, commercialization of NYS is critical for self-reliance and contribution to the economic transformation of the nation. I'll be working with other ministries and agencies to expedite the commercialization process.
