#TodayinHistory: #OnThisDay in 2008, R-160 cars began service on the E line, giving #NYCsubway customers traveling between Jamaica Center, Queens and World Trade Center their first taste of New Technology Trains. Do you remember the first time you rode in an R-160?

#DidYouKnow that the Coney Island Complex is the largest rapid transit yard in New York State? It regularly provides day to day maintenance to about 800 #NYCSubway cars including the R-68, R-68A and R-160 car types.

#MerryChristmas to all who celebrate from the #NYTransitMuseum! Even though Alternate Side Parking is suspended today, parking a sleigh and reindeer in #NYC is still challenging. Perhaps #Santa prefers public transit? It sure looks like it from this 1962 #NYTMCollection photo.

#TodayinHistory: #OnThisDay in 1906, the BMT Canarsie line opened between Atlantic Avenue and Rockaway Parkway. The line has known many names – the 14th St Line, the Canarsie Line, and the “L” Line – and was also once a steam railroad connecting #Canarsie Pier and East New York.

In July of 1950, this photo of S/Sgt. Anne Peregrim graced #NYCsubway cars as part of the long-running “Miss Subways” campaign. In an interview, Peregrim recalled: “I was never so surprised in my life as when I received a letter telling me I’d been selected ‘Miss Subways.’”

Cookies, coffee, cigarettes, sausages, hair styling, and an amusement park! This #NYTMCollection photograph of the northbound platform of the 157 St station is a time capsule of advertisements, showing everything you might want for a great summer weekend in 1962.

Check out this #NYTMCollection photo depicting the interior of an R21 car! In service from the 1950s to 1987, these cars featured a linoleum floor, padded seats and curvy metal handholds. #DidYouKnow that R21 car #7203 was rebuilt for use in the 1995 thriller #MoneyTrain?
