1259 days of banning Afghan girls from education. “I am an Afghan girl! I want to become a doctor. Don’t be cruel. Don’t kill my dreams.” Education is a right, not a privilege. The world must not stay silent.

It’s been 806 days since the Taliban banned higher education for Afghan girls. I call on higher education institutions worldwide to take action and stand for their right to learn. Everyday is the right time!

Today, once again, the Taliban refused to open the doors of secondary and higher education for Afghan girls. This year, around 400,000 more girls are denied their right to learn. 📅 1281 days since school closures 🎓 821 days since university bans

1,284 days of stolen dreams. Haya and 2.2 million Afghan girls are still waiting for their right to education, waiting for the world to act. How much longer?

It was hard and painful to hear about the human rights violations in Afghanistan from Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur, at the Anthony Hyman Memorial Lecture 2025. The control of women as a tool for controlling society is devastating. The world must not look away.

Free speech and the University of Sussex “Those who have … known the cost of true tyranny understand that places like Sussex are the very antithesis of that and an antidote to it.” Naimat Zafary [Naimat Zafary] via Higher Education Policy Institute hepi.ac.uk/2025/04/03/fre…

Having lived under a regime where free speech is a crime, what I’ve witnessed at University of Sussex is truly powerful: open debate, diverse voices, and respect for difference. Sussex embodies the freedom so many can only dream of. Thank you University of Sussex Sussex Global🏳️‍🌈✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 and Higher Education Policy Institute

1.2 million Afghan girls are barred from their fundamental right to education. Among them are my four young nieces, bright, curious, full of dreams. But for 1,300 days, they’ve been locked out of school. We are watching a generation fade into darkness.

Today marks 873 days that Afghan girls remain banned from higher education under the Taliban. The systematic dismantling of women's rights continues, now with 120 professors & staff laid off at Sheikh Zayed University. The world cannot stay silent. 8am.media/eng/taliban-la…
