New preprint led by Ariel Goldstein provides evidence that IFG (Broca’s area) encodes language using a continuous vectorial representation ("brain embeddings") with strikingly similar geometry to contextual embeddings derived from deep language models: doi.org/10.1101/2022.0…

🚨NEW PREPRINT w/ David Broockman. We conducted a real-world experiment to study the effects of partisan media. In Sept 2020, we paid people who normally watch Fox News to instead watch CNN. Median person was paid $15/hour for 7 hrs/week for 4 wks to watch CNN. Thread on results 1/

In my preprint with Wilma Bainbridge, we tried to train participants to learn image memorability. Though they improved slightly, participants never reached the level of the DNN ResMem, suggesting that we are unable to access memorability’s full variance: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
