Pupil size is used in many many studies as a readout of behavioural arousal. In our new work in Nature Neuroscience we add to the literature on neural control of pupil size by demonstrating a strong impact of orexin neurons. (1/3) nature.com/articles/s4159…

Our paper "Cellular-resolution gene expression mapping reveals organization in the head ganglia of the gastropod, Berghia stephanieae" just came out in J. Comparative Neurology. Desmond Ramirez, Thi Bui, and Paul Katz. We found many unexpected things... doi.org/10.1002/cne.25…

Attending FENS 2024 in Vienna? I would love to tell you more about my PhD project in the Schratt lab at ETH Zürich investigating the role of miRNAs in engram neuron consolidation in the central amygdala! (Thursday afternoon session, poster #42) Hope to see you there :)

🚨Our new #behavior work is out in @Naturemethods! We introduce BehaviorFlow, a pipeline that takes DeepLabCut 🦄 tracking and the output of any clustering algorithm to compute the dynamic transitions between behavioral motifs for downstream data analysis 🥳nature.com/articles/s4159…

A grand finale for the first official Phd-student of the Gapp lab! Well done Miriam Kretschmer for a fabulous PhD defense- I am extremely proud of you!

Sam Altman Sam, who at OpenAI was involved in Suchir Balaji's death? His mother makes a compelling argument that you were involved:

New paper: Gilardi et al. By combining human & rodents data, we dissected the molecular roles of miR-708-5p in mood disorders (MDs). miR-708-5p levels in human PBMCs could be used as a potential biomarker for the differential diagnosis of MDs. Schratt lab embopress.org/doi/full/10.10…

Our study describing a role for the circular RNA circRERE in the regulation of silent excitatory synapses is finally out Nature Communications! nature.com/articles/s4146…
