In its recent Scientist C recruitment, Wildlife Institute of India rejected over 70 applicants (incl me) for not submitting supporting documents that they hadn't even (explicitly) requested! Many others rejected because our photos had no sign on them. MoEF&CC All India Research Scholars Association

Dear #SciComm practitioners, As science communicators working in India, we have often observed or experienced the lack of standardised benchmarked salaries in this field. We believe that an anonymous survey regarding salaries could be a starting point to address this issue. +

Excited to share our latest preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2310.04950 which shows how the feedback between mechanical strain and contractility can turn monolayer tissues into a mechanically-excitable medium, leading to the propagation of self-sustained waves.

Are u in the evaluation committee? Evaluate the candidate, their contribution to the field. Read the proposal. Don’t just count the number of papers, h index, IFs. Yes, it will take time but u r there to do that job as an expert. Else, a computer could do the calculation. 1
