A couple of pleasing, soupy veggies dishes Nandine, which caters excellently for veggies. Dandok: slow-boiled strained yoghurt & cracked wheat w roasted tomato, fried onions, garlic & zaatar. Tirshak: vegan kifta in spinach, tomato & split chickpea broth, w fried leek & aioli.

Aubergine platter Nandine consisted of smoked aubergine slow cooked w chickpeas, almost as assertive as the silken baba ghanoush, & salad of fried aubergine, red peppers & onions, along with more naan, undulating with dips and crevices for a bigger surface for dips to cling to

Pearly barley & chickpeas, softened but still w a nutty bite, in a resonant mutton broth, overlain with a pair of plump, taut spiced danqut sausages & titivated by house chili oil, crisply-fried sage and lime to squeeze over for a little puckering acidity if so desired Nandine

Sam Bald Flavours booked Nandine. For that I will remain in his debt, for this qibuli raash alone. Discernibly individual grains of sweetly smoked rice, slicked w fat & juices from tender cubes of spiced mutton, mixed w nuts & raisins & crowned w a frilly tangle of fried leeks

Baklava selection Nandine. A riot of pastry, sugar and nuts. Crisp and friable in parts, sweet, soggy and dense in others, but all speaking of sweet spice, floral petals, warmth and generosity. A fitting finale to a heartwarming evening.
