Congratulations to Elizabeth Proctor, Bruce Gluckman, and Patrick Drew on their $3.83M grant from The National Institute on Aging (NIA)! The team will study how vascular function and sleep affect the brain’s ability to clear harmful cellular waste products in a genetic variant connected to #AlzheimersDisease

Ready to meditate by controlling your breathing? By simultaneously recording rsMRI, electrophysiology and respirational signals, we discovered a respiration-associated brain network mediated by neural activity. The paper just came out in eLife. doi.org/10.7554/eLife.… eLife - the journal

The most labor intensive work from my lab thus far, led by Dr. Dom, Dan Albaugh, Dr. Halfpint 🍻. We gave it everything. And here we share all new things we learned about fMRI signal in striatum! This marks our time CAMRI UNC. Please share if you find it worth reading

Glad this paper is finally out in eLife. A disparity in temporal and spatial relationships between resting-state electrophysiological and fMRI signals could imply an rsfMRI component contributed by "electrophysiology-invisible" signals. Food for thought. doi.org/10.7554/eLife.…

Sequential Deactivation Across the Hippocampus‐Thalamus‐mPFC Pathway During Loss of Consciousness onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ad… Glad our paper is out in Advanced Science. We identified a sequential neural events unfolding around the moment when animals lose consciousness.

A team of Penn State researchers—including Huck Chair in Brain Imaging Nanyin Zhang—has pinpointed the exact moment of loss of consciousness due to anesthesia, mapping what happens in different brain regions during that moment. psu.edu/news/engineeri…
