Today, we are excited to share with you our most recent work in Nature Biotechnology about domesticating C. acnes, a skin microbe, as a production and delivery shuttle for therapy. Want to know more?🪡🧵

Interesting approach for acne treatment: engineer bacteria to work like Accutane, but locally (and without all the nasty side effects)! Modified C. Acnes bacteria secrete NGAL to kill sebocytes & thus sebum production. They engraft on mice skin & produce NGAL there.

Our second book is now available for pre-order. 🎉 Embracing the book's technology theme, we did something special: We encoded the entire book into DNA & packaged it into stainless steel capsules, where it will live for tens of thousands of years. 1,000 copies were made... 🧵

🚀 Great news for our lab! We’ve received a €2.5M EIC Transition Grant to advance #Synflora, an innovative biotech treatment for acne. By engineering skin bacteria to release beneficial molecules, we aim to revolutionize dermatology! 🔬✨ upf.edu/web/focus/w/sy…
