There are points one can quibble with, but also much with which one can wholeheartedly agree. The goal in Australia, as in UK, should be to shift the bipartisan consensus in this new direction. Current model is simply not working.

Academics are dependent on foreign students. Journalists are dependent on revenue from realestate.com.au & domain.com.au. Politicians are dependent on property developers (& their own tenants). And bureaucrats know that diversity makes the government bigger.
