After 5 days spent mostly looking for otters, and falling short every time, I spotted this one as I was dropping my fiancée off at work this morning. A just reward.

#Peregrine pair feeding on a Barnacle Goose, which the female took down, just below the house here at RSPB The Oa. A brief moment of absence allowed me a rapid opportunity to move a camera trap from a nearby wader scrape and onto the goose kill. RSPB Scotland

Well I wasn’t expecting to see a Great Egret at Kinnabus today. A new site species for me, and who doesn’t love some Ardeidae action. RSPB Scotland The Oa

Found this ravishing little nugget of a fungus today, not sure if it’s just a really faded New Zealand Truffle or something else entirely. Images of the top and bottom.

A hungry Common Buzzard taking full advantage of my tractor work this afternoon, and enjoying all the worms available as I spread cattle manure onto #Corncrake early cover habitat. Amazing to watch it at close quarters. 📍 RSPB The Oa RSPB RSPB Scotland

Only a few weeks left before our Greenland White-fronts head back north. Another year, another decrease in our wintering numbers, with only 3 juvenile birds observed amongst the flock. Here’s hoping they have a more productive 2025 breeding season. 🤞 RSPB Scotland The Oa

Much rarer than white rhinos and in the midst of (another) dramatic population decline and yet very few people are talking about this and even less conservation action happening. Well done David Dinsley for a cracking shot and for giving this amazing bird a bit of limelight

Environmental groups and farmers are often seen as being on opposing sides - but that’s not the case! We manage four farms here in Scotland, where livestock and crops help to support biodiversity. Read about our farms here: community.rspb.org.uk/ourwork/b/scot… 📷 Andy Hay

Time to leave Estonia. Always mixed emotions. The amazing diversity of species, the wild landscapes, lonely & lovely all wrapped in one! The constant, loud, bird song is one thing that will be noticeably absent on arriving back into the UK. Thank you, David Dinsley. Great trip

Wasn’t expecting to find a roadside Woodchat Shrike here on The Oa, Isle of Islay this evening. Definitely the best bird we’ve found since moving here. What a beauty. BirdGuides

Really nice to be seeing good numbers of Narrow-bordered Bee Hawk-moths on the wing this month. No doubt the recent warm, calm weather has made conditions better for them and easier for us to find them. The Oa, Isle of Islay RSPB Scotland RSPB

Corncrake back at RSPB The Oa. I’ll be honest, I had almost given up on one arriving this spring, and then a few days ago this delight arrived. We now have everything crossed he’ll find a female, and be productive. 🤞 #Corncrake

Our Warden @naturenortheast at The Oa nature reserve on Islay had just about given up hope of any Corncrakes arriving this year... until this handsome wee fella turned up last week 🤎 Let's hope he can turn on the charm and find himself a partner! #Crexcrex #Corncrake
