It was my privilege to be at the Crew Connect awards last Wednesday as Admiral Ed Santos FNI received his lifetime achievement award. Admiral Santos has made a huge impact on shipping and seafaring in the Philippines; we are proud to have him as a Fellow of the Nautical Institute

In London at the first meeting of the Antarctic Parliamentarians from countries signatory to the Antarctic treaty. As the NI is active in providing Ice Navigator qualifications it is good to hear the discussions for the region. Large international turnout to this key event.

Busy week culminating in supporting the Carol Service of the Sea Cadets at Chapel of St Peter and St Paul, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwhich. Nice to see young Cadets taking a leading role and then sharing their experiences with guests over a glass of spiced apple juice. Yum!

Pleased to be back in Bangladesh visiting branches in Chittagong and Dakar with David Loosley; today we visited the Bangladesh Marine Academy to see classes, workshops and new simulation suite. Great developments. Good to see an increased recruitment of women cadets #nautinst

It is always a pleasure to welcome members to headquarters in Lambeth Road. Today was very special; I presented our highest grade and certificate of Fellowship to Yves Vandenborn. Well deserved award that recognises Yves' hard work for industry and for The Nautical Institute.

Enjoyed a quiet evening out with branch members and guests in Fremantle Friday evening. A traditional gathering in a place of historical importance to seafarers - still the chosen rendezvous for people of taste. Super to hear about the local priorities and discuss new ideas.

Late in the UK but happy to join the US Gulf Branch on-line this evening as people take refuge from public meetings. Thanks for letting me join in discussions and paying of respects for the passing of the Black Labrador. Great atmosphere and strong fraternity in difficult times

Astonished to see dozens of bikes at London Bridge St - some almost new - with notices from Network Rail - if not removed within 14 days they will be taken away. NR is discouraging travel during pandemic. Please stop this now - people are safe at home - leave their bikes alone.

A subdued and socially-distanced Remembrance event at Tower Hill today in London. Thanks to HCMM and Trinity House for helping us ensure simple but meaningful moments of respect were paid at the Merchant Navy Memorial in London. 'We will remember them' #HCMM #Nautinstceo

Spent time at the MN memorial, Tower Hill, London, today reflecting on NI Honorary Fellow HRH Duke of Edinburgh and his contribution to maritime and wider communities. Listening to the 41 gun salute recalled his contribution through the DofE awards and support for the WWF. RIP.

As parts of London return to almost normal, pleased to attend an evening on board HQS Wellington where we shared some sea shanties. At least one of us turned up in relevant and contemporary attire. Well done the M3C team. #nautinstCEO
