The world is safe when children are safe. Speaking at the UNSC Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict, Amb Lok B Thapa stressed that protection of child rights must be upheld in all circumstances, urging all concerned to respect IHL, cease violence& end child exploitation.


On the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, Amb Lok B Thapa reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to peace, human dignity & int. law & stressed for upholding its principles to build a just, equitable & peaceful world. The Charter is not a relic past but a living promise to the future.


Amb. Lok B Thapa met ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Alisjahbana at his office today. They discussed various issues, including Nepal’s ECOSOC Presidency and priorities, enhanced cooperation with regional commissions, the UN80 Initiative, and the FfD4 Conference follow up among others.


ECOSOC Vice-President Amb. Lok B Thapa chaired Opening Segment of the HLPF 2025. In his statement, he emphasized urgent need to think & act beyond conventional approaches in light of persistent & emerging challenges & the limited progress on SDGs with only five years until 2030



Speaking at the #HLPF2025 session on Countries in Special Situations, LDC Chair Amb. Lok B Thapa underscored urgency of structural transformation, innovative financing & strengthened partnerships to bridge the development gap & accelerate SDG progress in LDCs.



ECOSOC VP Amb Lok B Thapa chaired the interactive panel discussion on SDG 8 & interlinkages with other SDGs. The session stressed the vision of SDG 8 where growth benefits all, where work is safe & dignified, and where no one is left behind in shaping the future of work.



At side event on Mountains as Key to Accelerating 2030 Agenda, Amb Lok B Thapa stressed: -Targeted, predictable & accessible climate finance -Invest in resilient mountain economies -Engage women & youth -mainstream mountains agenda -strengthen mountain-specific data systems


Amb Lok B Thapa met H. E. Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, Under-Secretary-General & Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies. They discussed digital tech & AI's role in transforming economies of developing nations, esp LDCs & LLDCs & growth potential through innovation.


At the launch of Global Report on South-South & Triangular Cooperation, ECOSOC VP Lok B Thapa emphasized the power of solidarity, urged treating SSTC as a core pillar of multilateralism & called for proactive efforts to recognize & champion it as a strategic enabler of #SDGs.


Amb Lok B Thapa met with USG for Economic and Social Affairs H.E. Li Junhua today. They discussed Nepal’s roles and engagements in different UN processes. Also discussed were priorities of the upcoming Presidency of Nepal in the ECOSOC.


Amb Lok B Thapa met with ASG & Special Representative of the Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction H.E. Mr. Kamal Kishore today. They discussed the importance of DRR mandate, Nepal’s needs and priorities along with best practices & ECOSOC’s role to advance this agenda.


Amb Lok B Thapa met with Managing Director of UN Technology Bank for LDC Mr. Deodat Maharaj today. They discussed advancing the Technology Needs Assessment of Nepal with the support of UNTB & addressing gaps of digital technology in the LDCs.


At #HLPF2025, ECOSOC Vice-President Lok B Thapa chaired the session on Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) of Guatemala, Sudan,Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan, Saint Lucia & Angola who shared their progress on #SDGs expressing commitment to accelerating collective efforts toward #Agenda2030



Agri food systems must be reimagined as pathways of dignity, innovation & opportunity At #HLPF side event cohosted by Nepal & FAO, Amb Lok B Thapa highlighted the importance of youth-led agriculture to generate decent jobs, retain rural youths & achieve food & climate goals.


Amb Lok B Thapa met Mr. Gilbert Houngbo, Director-General of ILO at the mission. They discussed on promoting sustained economic growth, addressing unemployment challenges, providing social justice, creating decent works, building capacity & advancing STI for youth employment.


Amb. Lok B Thapa met H.E. Nicole de Moor, Member of Parliament and former State Secretary for Asylum & Migration of Belgium at the Mission. They held discussions on various issues including forced displacement, migration, and refugees.
