Centre for Domestic Training and Development Si Kelly HSC MOYOTE KENYA Martin Saurer Harrison Owuor Otieno Sexual violence is caused by a number of factors that include marital conflict, drug and substance abuse, illiteracy, ignorance and negative influence of media.
Centre for Domestic Training and Development Si Kelly HSC MOYOTE KENYA Martin Saurer Harrison Owuor Otieno Other factors include having grown up in an abusive family environment where children grow up watching their parents and other family members abuse each other sexually. As a result, they grow up thinking this is the norm.
Centre for Domestic Training and Development MOYOTE KENYA @TheJimButtons Martin Saurer Harrison Owuor Otieno Mostly GBV is as a result of gender and cultural norms . The unequal status between men and women . The belief that women should be like a possession to men and should treat men the way they want. This triggers violence and allows GBV.
Centre for Domestic Training and Development Si Kelly HSC MOYOTE KENYA @TheJimButtons Harrison Owuor Otieno One of the root causes of GBV is cultural beliefs where women are counted as children or property
Centre for Domestic Training and Development MOYOTE KENYA Si Kelly HSC Martin Saurer Harrison Owuor Otieno For male youth who have sexually abused women and girls, we educate and help them to adopt new habits that enables them to stop abusing women and girls as well as other boys and men. We empower them to be responsible and use their authority for good instead of harming others
Centre for Domestic Training and Development MOYOTE KENYA Si Kelly HSC Martin Saurer Another solution is enlightening women and girls on the dangers of associating with abusive men or getting into compromising situations such as attending music concerts at night, drinking and abusing drugs and responsible online relationships.
Centre for Domestic Training and Development MOYOTE KENYA Si Kelly HSC Martin Saurer Mothers - be they single or married - should try as much as they can to raise up boys who will treat women and girls and other men with respect, honor and dignity. Speak life to your your sons and remind them of their duty and role as caring and supportive leaders.
