Benjamin’s White Comedy—a poem that reclaims language, identity, and power. Hearing him read it is something else. Quietly fierce. Unapologetically true.

‘Turner’s Road, E3’ 1988. Now there’s only the chimney & nearby, graffiti: ‘George Davis is innocent’. A man wearing squatted in the building, always tinkering in a greasy mac with a decrepit old van parked on waste land opposite. ⁦Spitalfields Life⁩ ⁦Richard Morris

A reminder that I will be on tour throughout July, as well as leading a class on writing historical fiction at the Harrogate Crime Festival. Do come along if you are in the neighbourhood for any of these events to hear me talk about my latest novel, THE ART OF A LIE (out July 10)

Dead Poets Society is 36 years old today. 'O Captain! My Captain!' Robin Williams was extraordinary, as was the rest of the young cast. Peter Weir shot it in chronological order, so the whole process led to this scene. No other film has made me cry as much as this one.

I probably shouldn’t have worn a dress the exact same shade of red as the chairs at Newham Bookshop, but no matter. Signed copies of #WhatHappensInTheDark are now available from the bookshop. Pop in, call 020 8552 9993 or email [email protected] to order your copy.
