Brincidofovir (TEMBEXA®) FDA-approved & EMA orphan designation for treatment of smallpox. Also effective in experimental models against monkeypox. Glad we laid KU Leuven almost 20 years ago the basis for this drug with the discovery of the anti-pox virus activity of cidofovir.

Tecovirimat (Tpoxx®) (Siga Technologies) is FDA and EMA-authorized for the treatment of poxvirus infections, including monkeypox. My team KU Leuven was the first to demonstrate (in 2005) -together with Viropharma - activity of the drug against poxvirus infections in an animal model.
