Thank you André!! It was my pleasure to work with Samantha in this topic. Negative emissions will be needed and Samantha’s work explores the concept and boundaries when applied to industrial systems. I am very proud of her and her work 👏

Happy to share our new paper with lead author Yoli Sanchez Vicente, providing key thermodynamic data to support #CCS role out. We report VLE data on a key model system for wet/impure CO2 streams and aquifer storage. Supported by QCCSRC. Open access at mdpi.com/1996-1073/15/1…

Hydrogen can power the economy because it can be generated using surplus renewables, right? Er, no. All the curtailed wind generation in the US can only create enough hydrogen to drive two 400MW gas turbines running half the time. HT @YYCbikewinefood gasturbineworld.com/gas-turbines-b…

The article does basic energy balance calculations for different clean hydrogen pathways. Where it goes wrong is in assuming green H2 is all about curtailed renewables. I've pointed out endlessly that cheap green H2 will be based on dedicated renewables. about.bnef.com/blog/liebreich…

But if it helps kill the idea that surplus renewables will drive a hydrogen economy, that's a good thing. And don't forget 1) there are costs associated with harvesting curtailed power; and 2) no investor will put money into an electrolyser operating only at times of curtailment.

There’s an old saying, “Never meet your heroes.” I think that’s some of the worst advice I’ve ever heard. Mikhail Gorbachev was one of my heroes, and it was an honor and a joy to meet him. I was unbelievably lucky to call him a friend. All of us can learn from his fantastic life.

Imagine rising to the very top of any organization, and then having the wisdom AND the courage to look around and say, “This doesn’t work for the people, someone has to fix it. If not me, who? If not now, when?”

.. and a reminder that the Energy Technologies Institute did a whole load of (still relevant) work on H2 turbines and power CCS - all still accessible via CCSA Niall ukerc.rl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/eti_qu…
