Technician from lab of PI with an endowed chair, multiple R01s, and hundreds of papers emails me to ask for help writing their own letter of support for grad school. I have a purple armchair, 0 R01s, and 1 paper from my lab. I am a good mentor, though & they could be, too.

It's also generally frustrating to get inquiries like this, knowing that it's the responsibility of the mentor to... MENTOR... and yet, there is 0 accountability when they don't. It hurts the scientists in their group, & often, those scientists don't realize this is unacceptable.
