Well done to all the men saying that they deserved the prizes for their work. You are idiots. The work is good and worthy of recognition. The problem is the prize itself, which is antithetical to science, and the process of science. The prizes are the result of lobbying.

Had a wonderful time at the Adhesion GPCR workshop in Mexico City. Great to be part of such a supportive community! Also, excited to join the board and play even a small role in shaping the future of the consortium.

Technician from lab of PI with an endowed chair, multiple R01s, and hundreds of papers emails me to ask for help writing their own letter of support for grad school. I have a purple armchair, 0 R01s, and 1 paper from my lab. I am a good mentor, though & they could be, too.

It's also generally frustrating to get inquiries like this, knowing that it's the responsibility of the mentor to... MENTOR... and yet, there is 0 accountability when they don't. It hurts the scientists in their group, & often, those scientists don't realize this is unacceptable.

For women in academia, barriers to having children aren't just finding partners or preserving fertility. It's systemic barriers—relentless relocations, temporary contracts, focus on individual achievement—planning for a family is like an impossible luxury.science.org/content/articl…

This is not just an NIH problem. It’s an academia problem, which is unambiguously a gerontocracy. I’ve had people tell me the folks I supported for highly competitive, powerful roles were too junior (even in some cases when all finalists were full professors). I myself went from
