Pericyte loss during Alzheimer's disease has been strongly linked to blood-brain barrier leakage. Our new data suggests that capillary flow deficits due to pericyte loss probably happen much earlier. Just published in Nature Communications nature.com/articles/s4146…

What makes cerebral white matter more vulnerable with age? In this mouse study, we show that large and rare venules are bottlenecks for blood flow in the white matter. Deep branches of these venules are constricted with age, leading to reduced blood flow. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
