It's great that the protest can go ahead, but peaceful protesters shouldn't have to go to court to exercise their right to protest. It's one example why Amnesty International Australia 🕯 is campaigning for a federal Human Rights Act, to explicitly protect our human rights. theguardian.com/australia-news…

It’s seriously concerning that Football Australia took action to prevent players from exercising their right to freedom of expression at a press conference on such a fundamental issue such as human rights. This egregious conduct needs to be called out and condemned in strong terms.

Fearful of what exactly? A world without prisons and police where young mob can live in their fullest best lives in their communities? These laws are racist and target young blackfullas AND breach human rights.

On this #InternationalWomensDay, I’m thinking of my wife Muherrem again. The coming month (15th of April) will mark the 6th year of her arbitrary internment/imprisonment. .CHINA MFA Spokesperson 中国外交部发言人 should immediately #FreeMuherremAblet and reunite our family with our two kids. cc: Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade 🇦🇺

Today is #IDAHOBIT Day. But right now, trans lives are under attack. In the last few months, we have seen a huge rise in anti-trans rhetoric across the country, and a rise of anti-trans bills and discrimination internationally. Here are 5 things we can do to fight back 🧵

I'm devastated for Majid Kazemi, Saleh Mirhashemi and Saeed Yaghoubi, their families, and the people of Iran. The use of executions to deter people from protesting is horrific, and Amnesty International Australia 🕯 stands in solidarity with the Iranian people and their fight for human rights.

I spoke at a Parliamentary Committee today on why Australia needs a Human Rights Act. I also had the opportunity to share the support we see for an Act from people all around Australia at Amnesty International Australia 🕯 with the Committee.

Amnesty International welcomes the ICC Prosecutor’s statement committing to justice for all victims of crimes in the situation in #Palestine. This statement must be followed by urgent action as the investigation opened in 2021 saw no tangible progress, weakening the court’s deterrent effect.
