My new article is out: I argue why the US needs a comprehensive policy on Yemen, rather than a narrow focus on targeting Houthis.

#Yemen civilians are being hit from all sides-- US aid cuts + FTO designation mean even more people at risk of starving, #Houthis continue their arbitrary detentions and crackdowns on civil society, and US strikes are now increasing-- with a greater tolerance for civilian harm.

Today marks 10 years since the start of the Saudi-led coalition's campaign in #Yemen, which injured/killed at least 19,000 civilians. There has been almost zero accountability, and now Yemenis are facing a new wave of destruction + harm from the US. hrw.org/video-photos/v…

Syria’s new constitutional declaration concentrates power in the executive with few safeguards—raising serious concerns for judicial independence and human rights protections. A credible transition needs real checks and balances. NEW from @HRW -hrw.org/news/2025/03/2…

#Bahrain: new hunger strike in jail by Danish human rights defender al-Khawaja Appalling how EU & Denmark have been either unwilling or unable to get him out for 14(!) years: hrw.org/news/2024/03/0… Are you really THAT weak, Ursula von der Leyen Kaja Kallas Lars Løkke Rasmussen? #FreeAlKhawaja

Prison authorities in #Bahrain are effectively barring Abdulhadi Alkhawaja from speaking to some of his family. He has gone on a water-only hunger strike, placing him at great risk. AlKhawaja, a #Danish citizen, deserves better from the #EU. Ursula von der Leyen Kaja Kallas Lars Løkke Rasmussen

The Israeli military just issued an evacuation warning for a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut, announcing expected Israeli strikes. The building is clearly marked as being close to two schools. And it’s a regular school day in Lebanon. Civilian lives are at stake.

Medical and civil defence rescuers were encircled by the Israeli army tanks while they were on a succoring mission. The ambulances and vehicles attacked, the rescuers executed.

“Per population, the death toll of Palestinian journalists is roughly equivalent to the killing of 8,500 U.S. newsroom employees.”

It's excellent news that the #Bahrain govt released several hundred more prisoners just before Eid. But authorities continue to deny former detainees their access to basic rights, including their right to housing, even after they've been released.

The #Houthis have finally released Akram Al-Akhali, an employee of the NL embassy in #Yemen, after the embassy + civil society's tireless efforts advocating for his release. Hopefully other orgs/UN will follow suit for their staff to be released, too. hrw.org/news/2024/06/2…

Yet another US strike killed dozens of civilians in #Yemen after hitting a migrant detention center in Saada yesterday. Strikes over the last month have shown a drastic uptick in civilian harm, and a callous disregard for civilian life. More here: hrw.org/news/2025/04/2…

It’s been one year since the #Houthis began a devastating campaign of arbitrary arrests of Yemeni civil society, UN staff in #Yemen. The UN should be doing everything in its power to get them out. Joint statement from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch: hrw.org/news/2025/05/3…

#Israel's attacks on #Sanaa airport have cut off many Yemenis from the outside world, including those who need to travel for urgent medical care. These attacks, as well as #Houthis attacks on Ben Gurion airport, should be investigated as war crimes. hrw.org/news/2025/06/0…
