It is clear that he has no intention of doing so and I have therefore written to the Chairman of the 1922 Committee of Backbench Conservative MPs, advising him that I have no confidence in the Prime Minister as Leader of the Conservative Party. (2/3)

New results from Effort Lab at UCL! We show how failure to attenuate task irrelevant sensory input contributes to post stroke fatigue. This applies to visual biorxiv.org/content/10.110… auditory biorxiv.org/content/10.110… and also proprioceptive input biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Is distractor suppression by the alpha rhythm mainly driven by distractor anticipation OR perceptual load? 🥁🥁🥁The latter! 🎆Read our MEG study from The Centre for Human Brain Health in collaboration with the great Nilli Lavie just out in Progress in Neurobiology doi.org/10.1016/j.pneu…

Can teachers get started with implementing evidence-informed practices such as quizzes to enhance retrieval, or cartoons to capture pupils' attention, without worrying too much about the nuances? Not really! Read more at the Tes magazine article tes.com/magazine/teach… by Mike Hobbiss

Tracking drivers’ eyes can determine their ability to take back control from ‘auto-pilot’ mode, finds a team led by Prof Nilli Lavie UCL ICN @uclpals, who have developed a method to determine drivers' attention levels & readiness to respond to warnings ucl.ac.uk/news/2023/aug/…

As I was driving to work this morning, being stuck in traffic I was thinking how much more enjoyable it would be for my car to have a 'driverless' mode (as in exists Germany and some US states already). But is it safe? ucl.ac.uk/news/2023/aug/…

Nilli Lavie and I looked at the development of attention control skills across adolescence and into early adulthood... - Sustained attention gradually developed from early to late adolescence, and adulthood. - Selective attention was already mature by early adolescence.

Mike Hobbiss (@mikehobbiss) 's Twitter Profile Photo

THEN (the part I am most excited about as a teacher), we find that both sustained and selective attention task performance CAN PREDICT REAL EXPERIENCES OF DISTRACTION IN SCHOOL CLASSROOMS.. even controlling for interest, cognitive abilities and a range of other factors

Mike Hobbiss (@mikehobbiss) 's Twitter Profile Photo

To our knowledge this is the first time that task measures have successfully predicted classroom distraction experiences in secondary school age students.
