Despite improvements in some regions, we won't be done with the active weather on Saturday: Expect heavy rain in eastern Otago and Southland, where surface flooding and rapidly rising rivers may occur. Locally heavy showers and a few t-storms could also affect the North Island.

After the very active weather of the past few days, we'll finally see conditions becoming more tranquil from Sunday 🌦️ The lower North Island will see showers that will gradually ease, with mostly dry weather elsewhere 🍃 Moderate westerlies will affect the upper North Island

⛅ The best weather this week will occur on Tuesday and (most of) Wednesday, but unfortunately conditions will go downhill thereafter. 🌀 A potent low affecting eastern Australia will move across the Tasman to potentially bring heavy rain to parts of NZ on Thursday & Friday. ☔

High pressure (🔴) will be located over New Zealand on Tuesday and much of Wednesday, bringing this week's best weather. However, low pressure (🔵) forming near the east coast of Australia will cross the Tasman Sea and bring unsettled weather in the Thursday-Saturday time frame.

Despite it being the middle of winter, an arriving plume of moisture from the subtropics will make it feel fairly humid (🟢) in the upper North Island on Thursday and Thursday night, with less humidity by Friday.

More heavy rain is on the way for Thursday, especially in the upper portions of both islands. With some areas likely seeing 100 mm or more, localised flooding, slips, rapidly rising rivers, and difficult driving conditions may occur. Stay up to date: metservice.com/warnings/home

Today at 5pm ➡️ tomorrow at 5pm High pressure is building! This means we will finally see settled weather for most after a run of wet windy conditions. Some showers will effect areas like Hawke's Bay 🌧️, but places that have been sodden will see a return to dry & calm weather.

🌊 A persistent marine heatwave is occurring around NZ. A marine heatwave means 5+ consecutive days of sea surface temperatures well above what would normally occur for that time of year. 🌧️ Rain-bearing systems are tapping into this extra ocean moisture, fuelling heavier rain.
