Outcrop flyovers! What a fantastic day criss-crossing low-strain to high-strain domains along shoreline outcrops in Lofoten with Sascha Zertani #geologizinglikeamoho

First day of the FricFrac mini-conference excursion to Lofoten. Our basecamp is the most beautiful and historic Nusfjord rorbuer. We have invited international researchers with a variety of backgrounds and so the discussions have been extremely fruitful!

Started the 2nd day of the FricFrac mini-conference with short presentations of the outcrops we were to visit and then headed out to the field to look at small-scale shear zones! The day was capped by a group that headed out for a midnight sun summit

It’s been a great couple of days on François’ FricFrak mini-conference excursion around Lofoten, showing international researchers what we in Njord Univ. of Oslo have been working on recently. And Nusfjord Arctic Resort is absolutely stunning, and a great basecamp for midnight sun hikes!

FricFrac has just wrapped up; 3 excellent days in Lofoten followed by another intense 3 days of conference at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters Det Norske Videnskaps-Akademi A lot of science was shared and a lot of cool ideas are afloat

Some #fault zone structures from the weekend. Beautiful. 18km round trip. 800m elevation gain. Kilos of extra weight on the way down 😉. Picked up at the parking lot by my patient gf at 9:45pm. Still recovering 🥱. #pseudotachylytes #geologizinglikeamoho #geology

Exciting first day of the #CO2Basalt Njord Univ. of Oslo field trip / discussion meeting on the Faroe Islands! Something for everyone: Interesting #geology from basalt flows to glacial valleys and zeolites. :)

Beautiful geopetal indicators in this basalt core at the Faroese Geological Survey, #Jardfeingi. The filling of the vesicles indicates what used to be horizontal.

Day 1 of the Granulites and Granulites 2024 pre-con excursion to Val Strona. Found some structures amongst the partial melt stuff and many debates about ages were had. #geologizinglikeamoho

It was a pleasure hosting @AndreaBillarent from Earth Sciences - Utrecht University at Njord Univ. of Oslo for the past month to work on a pressure solution of quartz with a surface force apparatus. I am looking forward to the findings of this study!

#thinsectionthursday here’s an (ultra)mylonite with sick delta porphyroclasts and folded monomineralic layers. At the outcrop I thought I was sampling a sheared quartzofeldspathic dyklet but the mineral assemblage says otherwise. Dark layers are full of amph, grt, bt, fsp. 😁😱
