Morning SmallholdersUK (find us on BlueSky) Debbie Kingsley @LandworkersUK and all other smallholder people. I'd welcome any thoughts about the pros and cons of the new SFI 2024 offer. A good thing for smallholders? Too much hassle for what it's worth? Currently think it looks appealing... Thanks!

A tree, and a flint axe, maybe 4000 years ago. A strong, determined, arm strikes a single misjudged blow. The axe head snaps in half. A neolithic swear-word? I found this lovely thing on the saffron headland.

Hi @Jo_the_botanist I think you said you were searching for Lathyrus nissolia sites? We normally have a little patch here. Been checking every week and this is the first one to flower. Burnham Norton.

Busy day today. I'm running a saffron course Cam Botanic Garden in beautiful Cambridge. We'll be covering saffron's botany, history, uses, how to spot fake saffron, and we'll be doing a little pratical as well: dyeing with saffron.

Look at my cactus that has flowered this morning! The whole glasshouse smells like lily of the valley. I would say the colour, size and scent mean this species evolved to be moth-pollinated. Any idea of ID please British Cactus and Succulent Society?

In the news: Iran, grower of 90% of the world's saffron, suffering from smuggling epidemic. Official exports dropping significantly, an estimated 10t of the spice smuggled out of Iran every month. intellinews.com/persian-saffro…

Just heard from Weebly that they're discontinuing my old website plan, and the new fee will be not far off 3x what I paid last year! I just want a basic website that can take online orders. Any recommendations for an alternative? Pls RT.
