Some birds from a walk in between the showers - immature Marsh harrier on Cell 'C' (confirmation of breeding), juvenile Great crested grebe on Main lake, Reflections of a Great crested grebe & Little egret with breakfast

I really enjoy North Cave Wetlands ..a great place to visit with locals always helpful and kind. Took some time to get decent views of little owls but the med gulls were too hungry to care!🙂

North Cave Wetlands this morning- two sedge warblers and flushed out a green sandpiper at the dragonfly ponds, corn bunting in the neighbouring hedge, two little egrets

Some birds from a morning's walk, dodging the rain - Little egret hunting Cell 'A', male Yellowhammer in the new workings, Long-tailed tit on the North hedge & Common tern over the Reed-bed

This could be a circumference of Marmalade hoverflies!

Starting to appear now are Small red-eyed damselflies, as with this male by the Carp lake this morning

From a morning's walk, before another bout of rain - Goldfinch along Dryham lane, male Kestrel by West Holm, Overhead Cormorant & Juvenile Common ern on Crossland's lake causeway (one of 21 counted today)

Some birds from a surprisingly sunny morning's walk - Juvenile Chiffchaff in the North hedge, Skylark still on the New workings mounds, Juvenile Little ringed plover on Wets Holm, ringed Common tern on East Holm

Some butterflies from this morning, including a welcome 2nd brood Wall in the New workings, Painted lady, male Common blue & one of two Commas

A tale of 2 owls this morning, with Barn & Little owls near by each over

Some birds from a sunny very early morning walk - Sedge in the early morning sunshine, Chiffchaff along Dryham lane, adult Mediterranean & a Black headed gulls on East holm & East Holm's Black-tailed godwit

Grey heron landing on the Island lake in the early morning sunlight, giving some contrasting colours, hues & reflections

Signs of a good breeding season (with up to 70 pairs present), but also that autumn is on the way, are these juvenile Reed warblers (9 counted) at the western end of the Reed-bed

Another sign of autumn, the sight of our Sand martins, congregating in the Crossland's lake willows & also the electric wires crossing Crossland's lane

Some birds from this morning sunny walk (the showers came in the afternoon) - Pink-footed goose on the Reed-bed, juvenile Common tern on Crossland's causeway, Oystercatcher on East Holm (soon to depart?) & Classic Little owl pose

More of the Common terns, with what looks like a ringed female from Netherlands, being courted by one of our males, with a suitable sized Minnow

Some birds from a damp at times morning's walk - Little egret in Cell 'A', Juvenile Pochard on East Holm, One of the 21 juvenile Common terns on Crossland's causeway, male Linnet on the North path

From this morning's butterfly count - 31 Gatekeeper, 12 Meadow brown, 5 Peacock, 4 Speckled wood, 3 each of Red admiral, Common blue & large white, 2 Wall & single Small tortoiseshell & Painted lady. Probably the recent inclement weather has kept numbers down

The hedgerows are currently alive with juvenile Chiffchaffs & Reed warblers !
