Labour mayors in the North are generally pretty happy with Rachel Reeves' spending review - but not York and North Yorkshire's David Skaith (David Skaith) He says: “This government had a real chance to show it was serious about rural and coastal areas - but it missed it." ☹️

I realise MPs have to suck up to party bosses to get on, but this during yesterday's spending review debate is pretty cringeworthy Find out what Liam Thorp, henrimurison.bsky.social and I made of it (and lots else besides) on the Northern Agenda podcast podfollow.com/the-northern-a…

Today is six months on from the closure of the Gateshead Flyover, so here's a thread with some updates on the situation 🧵 Confirmation here that its planned demolition in the autumn won't force a change in the Great North Run route. chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-eas…

In 2021 the people of Sheffield voted in a referendum to move their council to a commitee system rather than the cabinet and leader model. Now the Labour government has told them (and others using the committee system like Wirral and Cheshire East) that they must switch back 🤷

'This comes as a surprise, we were not consulted' Sheffield's council leader Tom Hunt on the govt's decision to stop councils from being run by committee It does beg the question, shouldn't people in Sheffield - not Ministers in London - decide how their council is run?
