We've built a new memorial bench at Thorpe Marshes! 💚 It's a good spot for water vole, water rail and otter, for the patient folk 😉 Marsh harrier can be spotted regularly here too 🪶

A beautiful oddity at Holkham last week, a leucistic Whitefront. In field looked buff silver with a gingery tone to neck. Anyone else seen it here or on the Continent ? RareBirdAlertUK Kane Brides Global Flyway Network

This is definitely one of my most obscure tomes, but it contains this historically important and beautifully illustrated paper on one of my favourite groups of organisms — pseudoscorpions.

And following that last repost with some water beetle art from William Fowler's British Coleoptera, vol.1, 1887. The hand colouring cleverly brings out metallic sheens & glossy reflections.

Norfolk Norfolk coast birders! A GPS tagged Whooper Swan crossed from the Netherlands last night & arrived in the early hours in Norfolk. At 8am it was on Broad Water at Holme Dunes. If anyone has seen it, I'd be interested to know how many Whoopers are in the flock?

Lots of arachnids about in the dunes at RSPB Titchwell Marsh yesterday. Highlights included a lovely sand dune jumper (Marpissa nivoyi), sand bears (Arctosa perita) of all sizes, and some marram grass chelifers (Dactylochelifer latreillii). BAS

Hi Manfred R. Ulitzka , I found this one yesterday in Norwich (UK). I messed up the slide preparation a bit, but it has microtrichia on the wings so I think it is Thripidae. Is it possible to narrow it down further from these photos? Many thanks.

After a weekend in Norwich with friends, thought it rude not to visit the Little Gulls in Whitlingham cp on way home.

Saw a new bee today, one of the recent UK arrivals. Giant Blood Bee Sphecodes albilabris, at two sites in the Brecks. It's spreading through East Anglia quite rapidly. Almost the size of a honeybee, far bigger than any other blood bee. A cuckoo of Colletes cunicularius (right).

Just arrived in the post, the latest NNNS Transactions - volume 57 part 1. A superb read, including a nice tribute to stalwart member Rex Hancy and a fascinating insight into the life and scribblings of Blakeney Point warden Bob Pinchen in the early years of the last century.

Hi Steven Falk , I'd be grateful of your thoughts on this bee, seen in Norwich today (05/07/25). I think it might be Pseudoanthium nanum, which might be new to Britain, but on the BWARS Facebook replies are split: definitely/maybe/and "Stelis signata or Anthidiellum striagatum"
